This year, Sattva Yoga events are staffed by Ali Valdez (ERYT-500), Liz Doyle (ERYT 200), Kathleen Hunt (ERYT-500), Francis Rhodis, M.Ac (ERYT-500), Carina Terra (ERYT-500), Roberta Albert (ERYT-500), Shelby LaFrienere (ERYT-500), Valerie Immore (ERYT-500) and guest master teachers: founder of Tripsichore, Edward Clark and founder of Universal Yoga, Andrey Lappa. Additional faculty include: yoga instructor and chiropractor, Dr. Toni Best, yoga instructor and ND, Dr. Nafsya Parpia, and Joseph Campbell scholar, mythologist and author, Allison Stieger, MA.
Ali Valdez, Founder & Academic Director (ERYT 500)
Ali Valdez (E-RYT 500) with over 15,000 teaching hours and thirty years of contemplative practice, Ali is passionate about all things yoga, philosophy and spirituality her entire life, devoting many of her studies to intellectual history, aesthetics, and comparative religious studies. Since 2000, Ali has embarked on the yoga teaching path and has developed, with the wonderful guidance of her many teachers all over the world, a system committed to bringing out the best in her students and teacher trainees. Ali has certified or created content and curriculum for several teacher training programs and has over a hundred teachers serving the yoga community nationwide. Her devotion to her students does not end after the alignment practicum and conversations about the sutras. She is with her students every step of the way helping develop their practice, deepening their spiritual pursuits, helping them become successful yoga teachers or yoga business owners. Ali has practiced a multitude of styles, and has studied with master teachers all over the world, primarily developing her yoga sadhana in San Francisco, Singapore, New York and Seattle. She is eternally grateful for the teachers that have been formidable to helping cultivate her gifts in yoga and spiritual awareness, notably John Hoge, Kathleen Hunt, Gregg Caruso, Mikhaila Stettler, Celeste Renee, Andrey Lappa, Vincent Tam, and Edward Clark.



Liz Doyle
Liz Doyle, ERYT 200 began her yoga career with Kathleen Hunt’s teacher training program, which laid a solid foundation for her further studies. Liz has studied with Andrey Lappa, the father of Universal Yoga, Theresa Elliott a local creative Iyengar teacher, Katerina Wen, completed a year- long apprenticeship with Troy Lucero, and most recently spent a month with Edward Clark of Tripsichore Yoga fame. An avid student of the practice, Liz teaches some of the most creative, challenging and fun yoga classes in the Seattle area. She understands yoga from a philosophical and alignment perspective, which complements her ability to assist students in improving their technique, increasing skills, and going deeper.
Andrey Lappa, Guest Teacher and Founder of Universal Yoga
Andrey Lappa is one of the most influential thought leaders in the world of yoga, devising a comprehensive system based on centuries old traditions and techniques formulated and made accessible to the Western analytical mind. Putting science behind his teaching, plus a profound knowledge of yoga in its layered complexities, Andrey is pioneering bringing the breadth of hatha yoga to the Soviet Union, Europe, Asia and now the United States. Andrey will be joining the program from September 28-30th, 2012.
Kathleen Hunt
Kathleen Hunt danced her way through childhood. Hunt trained extensively in body awareness and movement modalities, earning a BA in Dance at the University of Washington. She studied under Joan Skinner (Skinner Releasing method) and Peggy Hackney (Labanotation/Bartenieff fundamentals) as well as ballet with Ruthanna Boris and anatomy/physiology. Post college, she was involved in dance production – direction, choreography and performance – receiving numerous grants and commissions for her work in collaboration with musicians, visual and literary artists.Hunt studied yoga primarily with Marie Svoboda, Felicity Green (Iyengar), Dharma Mitra, Swami Shankarananda (‘Sivananda’), Sri K. Patabhi Jois and Aadil Palkhivala.She taught dance and movement classes beginning in 1983 and began teaching yoga in 1986, teaching at the Jivamukti Yoga Center in NYC, for eleven years at Physical Culture and at the Downtown YMCA in Seattle.In 1995 she founded the ‘Samadhi Yoginis’, a yoga dance troupe that has performed in Seattle. In 1998 Hunt began the Samadhi Yoga Teacher Training program, which has run for eight consecutive years, with over 100 graduates. Kathleen and her partner, Steve Davis, opened the current Samadhi Yoga Center in 1999. In 2006 Hunt and Davis teamed up with Patti Hammerle to lead the first ‘Samadhi Yoga Pilgrimage to India’. Kathleen’s extensive experience in dance, yoga and spiritual traditions have all helped to shape her innovative, vinyasa technique and teaching methods.
Edward Clark
Guest teacher Edward Clark began studying yoga in 1978. Noteworthy among his teachers are Narayani and Giris Rabinovitch, but he confesses huge admiration for the Ashtanga Vinyasa, Sivananda, Iyengar, and Viniyoga practices. The Tripsichore technique is a synthesis of these and many other aspects of yoga. In addition to being the founder and leader of Tripsichore since 1993, Edward was Head of Movement and Dance at the prestigious Webber douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London for 20 years. http://www.tripsichore.com

Toni Best
Dr. Toni Best is an inspirational speaker, wellness coach and chiropractor. Having struggled with eating disorders for 20 years, she has been on a nearly lifelong quest for healing and wholeness, and a deeper understanding of the human body, mind and potential. This journey led to her Chiropractic degree, with ongoing study in natural hygiene (nutrition), human consciousness, and the magic healing potential of our own breath. She was guided to yoga in 1997 and the result was an extraordinary personal recovery and transformation. She began instructing in 2002 and brings a deep understanding of personal struggle as well as knowledge of health, the human body, and proper alignment to her teaching. She teaches authentically from love and inspiration and enjoys watching her students discover their true essence and heal their own lives through yoga. Dr. Toni breathes new life and inspiration in her classes with her enlightening and rousing view on wellness, human potential, and how to truly incorporate the principles we know and learn into our lives with enthusiasm and perseverance. She is also co-founder of Achieving Wellness Centers and Worksite Wellness with her husband and partner Dr. Darren White and speaks on many wellness topics to companies and groups in search of extraordinary wellness, wholeness and self-mastery
